Flip a Coin

(2011)
From the bottom of a wishing well

I crossed the line, broke a barrier

Tumbling down came quite a brick wall,

Bludgeons to the icy calm

Like secrets to the untrained ear

They broke away, they fell apart

Onlookers ooed and ahed

What a magnificent feat!

And all the kings and queens did sing

At their welcoming feast,

They did rejoice!

Then came the wreaking ball

Tattered ruins became the shops

I remember it well, the ones that sold satin

And the sweet shops I used to wander

But that’s what happens when they flip a coin!

And you don’t have a say in heads or tails

Oh, never did I think he would flip

Like those coins you use to make decisions

The ones you throw in wishing wells

I became a wish tossed in the water

And I was stuck there

Gazing at the mass destruction

O, but as I was saying things do flip

And instead of a wish, like a shooting star

I became a meteor plummeting down

Onto a fine city like the one we built
